Victor ‘Vic’ Rudolf Kostak was born in Rahway, NJ, in 1960. He made his home in Arlington, Virginia soon after graduating from Rutgers College - New Brunswick with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. After being diagnosed with colon cancer, he passed away suddenly surrounded by his loving family and friends at the age of 64.
Vic enjoyed his lifelong career as Primary Patent Examiner for the US Patent Office, where he made many lifelong friends who appreciated his kindness, helpfulness, sharp intelligence, quick wit, and unique sense of humor. His colleagues not only “laughed every day” from his humor, but shared that “he was the coolest thing that ever happened at the patent office.” Victor was singular.
Vic’s interests were wide-ranging. He had a passion for baseball (especially Mets) and football (only Jets). He enjoyed walking and bicycling, especially in Washington, D.C. and in his neighborhood. Vic took great pride in his home, handcrafting numerous items and building an extensive and well-loved library. He also loved his neighbors who became like family and was known to help any neighbor in need.
A devoutly religious man, Vic lived by the Golden Rule which defined his character as a man of high integrity and ethics. Those who knew Victor will greatly miss his uniquely authentic spirit.
He is survived by his many loving friends and family, including mother Anna Kostak and siblings Mira, Mary, and Frank Kostak and twin sister Gabriela Jurick, aunts and uncles, nieces and cousins.
