

Virginia M. Brewster “Ginny” passed away October 9, 2023. She was born in Joliet, Illinois in 1929 and grew up in Sterling and Chicago, Illinois – one of nine children to Peter and Rose Murphy. She married a native Chicagoan, the love of her life, Robert G. Brewster in 1952. After moving to Arlington, Virginia and becoming a CIA spouse, she began three decades of accompanying her husband on many assignments in Asia including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Korea twice. She raised and brought along all seven of their children to these sometimes challenging assignments. After the death of her husband in 1981 she moved from Great Falls, VA to Falls Church, VA and eventually Greenspring Village in Springfield, VA. She was a volunteer for many organizations while overseas and later in the workforce, eventually becoming the Director of HOPE of Northern Virginia. She continued volunteering at Greenspring teaching ESL.
She is survived by her seven children – Robert, Thomas, Patricia (Johnson), Katherine (Thompson), Brian, Kevin and Terese and her nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Sally Boniecki of Chicago, Illinois.
Virginia was a fiercely independent, adventurous, and resilient woman who cherished her family, friends and Catholic faith. She loved travel, golf, Notre Dame football, books and music.
Memorial service will be at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 3:00pm. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations be made in her honor to Direct Relief International (www.directrelief.org) for international health and medical relief, or the charity of your choice.
