Wayne E. Boggs, husband, father, friend, DC sports fan and dedicated executive, died on Friday, January 22, 2016. We will remember his sense of humor, love of good fires and the Washingtonian, taste for the finer things in life and his mean handshake (but only with his left hand).
Wayne was born on September 29, 1954 in Washington DC and spent his whole life in Arlington. He attended James Madison, Williamsburg and Yorktown High School where he met and then married his high school sweetheart. Wayne kept Arlington on its toes with his love of illegal fireworks and his cherry red corvette that you could hear from miles away. Wayne attended Virginia Tech where he majored in accounting.
Wayne started his accounting career at Arthur and Anderson then became the youngest partner at BDO Siedman before becoming the Chief Financial Officer of District Photo, serving in that role for over 20 years. In his role as CFO Wayne helped the firm complete several major transactions, notably its acquisition of Snapfish, and expand its footprint internationally. He worked very hard all his life, up until the very end.
Outside of work, Wayne was a football enthusiast and volunteered as an assistant coach for Arlington Youth Football for over 5 years. He was also a lifelong Redskins fan, no matter how they played. Wayne also was an avid traveler. One of his favorite locations was the Atlantis in the Bahamas where he always enjoyed a good ocean view, being surrounded by family and friends, and a cold Dark and Stormy.
Wayne is survived by his wife Debbie, his children Brian, Suzie and Chris and his granddaughter Rylie. Above all, he was a generous friend to everyone he encountered, a loving husband and a devoted father. He made a difference in the lives of many and we invite you to join us to celebrate his life.
The memorial will take place on Thursday, January 28 from 6 to 8pm at Murphy’s Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd in Arlington. The funeral will take place on Friday, January 29th at 2pm at St. Ann’s Church, 5300 10th Street in Arlington. A reception will be held afterwards in true Wayne fashion with good food and drinks, details to follow.
