David was born March 5, 1937, in the farmhouse of his grandparents near Albany, Minnesota, to Arthur and Ethel Lemke. On Sunday afternoon, August 10, 2014, David went to be with his Savior in Heaven. We know he is safe in the arms of Jesus. But we miss him dearly.
When David was four years old, he moved with his family and also his grandparents, August and Erma Holzeimer, to Yakima, Washington. There, his grandparents bought an apple orchard. From there, David and his parents and siblings moved to North Bend, Washington. He attended elementary school at Snoqualmie Falls Lutheran Church, and grade school at Snoqualmie. He graduated eighth grade in June of 1952.
In the fall of 1952, David enrolled in Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, South Dakota for high school. While there, he met his future wife, Marian Katus. David graduated from the Academy June 1956. That summer after school, he worked on a farm for Harold and Minnie Gall. On December 26, 1956, David & Marian were married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Watauga, South Dakota. They then left and moved to Washington state, and settled in Yakima for a number of years. Eventually, they moved to their home on Lake Bosworth, where they lived and raised their children for 44 years.
David worked at Weyerhaeuser and Tramco | BF Goodrich both for fifteen years each, and retired in 2000. There he made many good friends and buddies. All of them enjoyed going on hunting and fishing and camping trips. The biggest hunt of all for David was elk hunting in Idaho with his sons, Brad and Jeff, where they all got their own trophy bulls.
David loved music. He enjoyed playing the guitar, piano by ear, banjo, accordion and mandolin. One of his favorite pastimes was to sing and play to the children in his family, and also with his friends. He enjoyed country music, gospel, bluegrass, and hymns.
God blessed David and Marian with eight children. Rodney David and Kimberly Kay preceded him in death but are all together with him in heaven now. We love you, Dad, and will miss you until the end of our days. We will think of you and smile every day of our lives.
