

Douglas E. Rogers, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Marysville, WA. He was born to Raymond and Alvida Rogers January 10, 1932 in Bellingham, WA. He grew up on a small ranch where his love of horses began at an early age. Doug played football at Ferndale High School, he loved it as you had to be tough with only a leather helmet, no face mask and little padding. After graduation Doug proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a baker with two cruises aboard the USS Kenneth Whiting, a sea-plane tender and the remaining time at Adak, AK. Upon discharge he returned home to marry Virginia Handy of Nooksack, WA. She also had a passion for horses. In 1959 the family of four moved to Alderwood Manor area where Doug continued his apprenticeship with Local 32 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in Seattle, WA. He was a member for over 55 years. In 1966 they bought 10 acres at Silver Lake near Everett, WA. Doug’s love of horses continued. He spent many years as a traveling horseshoer, hunting on horseback and riding in the hills with family and friends. In 1978, Doug and Virginia bought 20 acres in Arlington, WA where they both enjoyed working on their land. Happy trails Doug, you will be missed. Doug was preceded in death by his parents and son Craig Rogers. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia Rogers of Arlington, son Scott (Lidia) Rogers of Arlington; grandchildren, Leah, Christina, Sam and Haley. A visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2013, 12-5 p.m. at Weller Funeral Home, 327 N. MacLeod Ave., Arlington, WA. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Weller Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
