Born in Spokane, WA, Joanne lived a varied and sometimes difficult childhood. Eventually she found herself working for relatives in the Lakewood area where she met the love of her life, Ole. They were married in 1953.
Together they developed their farm into a modern dairy with a new house and barn. They raised five children. Joanne was an active participant on the farm. She drove tractor, milked cows, fed calves and shoveled poop. She cooked lots of hearty meals not only for the family, but for hay and silage crews. There was always cake, pie, and cookies at the Sather table for whoever showed up! At times she managed it all by herself when her husband was ill and the children were in school.
When her husband died in 2010, she continued to keep the farm going. She enjoyed going for car and truck rides with her children and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She also had some special pets to keep her company.
Joanne was preceded in death by Ole, as well as her grandson Jason Luckraft. She leaves her children and their families; Irvin and Heather Sather and their daughters Jessica and Melissa, Kathy and Joe Luckraft and their daughter Katie, David and Becky Sather, Janet and Doug Neiffer and their two daughters Linda (Rick) and Kerry (Bobby) and their children Lillian and Kristopher, and Caroline and Rob Marrinier and their daughter Amanda.
Joanne was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and will be laid to rest at Zion Lutheran Cemetery at the Little White Church on the Hill in Silvana, WA. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 11:00am. Following the service, lunch will be served at Peace Lutheran Church, Silvana.
