

William (Bill) August Schmeling of Arlington, WA died while fishing Pilchuck Creek on December 3, just nineteen days shy of his 82 birthday. Bill was born in Republic, WA on December 19, 1928. He is survived by his wife Margaret and (4) children, Arlene Gabbert, Forest Schmeling, Margaret Otto and William Robert Schmeling and their families.
Bill graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Forestry and Land Management, served in the Korean War and worked for the Department of Agriculture for over 35 year until he retired to Pilchuck in 1988. He put his life services to work on the property and land he loved – his heaven on earth. He, his wife and their youngest son help plant his property primarily with douglas fir as a foundation for his heirs. Bill supported the community by working with the Farm Forestry group and the Upper Puget Sound Forestry Group. He also volunteered at the Pilchuck Fishery to support his other love – sport fishing.
Bill married the love of his life Margaret Cole on February 19, 1955. They had (4) children, (6) grandchildren and (3) great grandchildren. He is loved by all those whose lives were touched by him.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Loyal Heights Community Center, 4305 269th Place NE, Arlington, Washington 98223, on Friday, December 10 at 2:00p.m.
