

On the afternoon of June 12, 2015, Melba Hawkins (nee Lewis) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at St. Anthony’s Medical Center, St. Louis, MO. Melba was 87 years old and lived life to the fullest, only slowing down to focus on her joys in life: spending time with her family, dedicating time to her church, cooking for her family and friends, and gardening. Melba’s favorite place was home with her family and beloved daughter, Debra. Melba’s love for life, God, and family allowed her to share her passion and energy with everyone she met. Melba is preceded in death by her father and mother, Everett and Edyth Lewis (nee Ketcherside), by her beloved husband of 42 years, Elvin Hawkins, and by her beloved son, James “Jim” Hawkins. Melba is survived by four generations of family including her loving children, Debra “DeeDee” Hawkins and Alan Hawkins, her sister RuthAnn Youngblood (nee Lewis), her grandchildren - James (Angie) E. Hawkins, Jr., Alan “AJ” (Jennifer) Hawkins, Jr., Joshua Hawkins, Tiffany (Jeff) Kammermeyer, Chistina (Thomas) Starr, Christopher Hawkins, as well as her great-grandchildren – Courtney, Zachary, Scott, Julia, Ethan, Holden, Justin, Drake, Ainsley, Sofia, Alexander, and Evelyn.
Services will be held at Arnold Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, June 20, 2015, 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Arnold Church of the Nazarene, 3651 Telegraph Road, Arnold, MO 63010 appreciated.
