Altamont Dickerson Jr.

Altamont Dickerson, Jr. from Ashland, VA died April 2, 2018. Al was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret D. Dickerson and son, Altamont "Monty" Dickerson III. He is survived by daughters, Gale Dickerson and Anne Dickerson, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was born in Spotsylvania County, VA, and graduated from the county high school. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1954, and over the years continued his education obtaining a MS from VCU and a Doctorate from UVA. He was a retired Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Rehabilitation Services, serving 35 years of state service. He was a long time and active member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, and volunteered at A.C.E.S. for many, many years. Among other things, he enjoyed vegetable gardening and fishing for rockfish. He loved his family and his country. A memorial service will be held on April 28, 2018 at 1:00pm at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland, VA.
