Brent Dean Morgan

Morgan, Brent Dean, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away on December 2, 2022, at the age of 80. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon E. Morgan; son Roderick; daughter in law Andrea; and grandsons, Benjamin, Jonathan, and Christopher. He was preceded in death by his son, Lance; parents, Albert and Agnes; and brother, Ronald. He was a graduate of Mentor (Ohio) High School and Defiance College, where he was president of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was a proud US Army veteran and had a long career at Graybar Electric which took him to Buffalo, NY, Pittsburgh, PA, Nashville, TN, Miami, FL, and ultimately back to Cleveland, OH. He was active at his church and as a leader in community organizations in each of these cities, such as the Jaycees, Boy Scouts of America, the Western Reserve Society, and Richmond Chapters, Sons of the American Revolution, the Baldwin-Wallace Institute for Learning in Retirement, the Northeast Ohio and Richmond Civil War Roundtables, the Ohio and Virginia Genealogical Societies, and the Genealogical Research Institute of Virginia. After retirement, his longtime interests in genealogy became both a renewed hobby and new career. In addition to both personal and professional research, he lectured and taught genealogical classes across the country. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on December 13, 2022 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S Washington Hwy, Ashland, VA 23005. A family burial service will follow. A celebration of life will be conducted at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 Henry St, Ashland, VA 23005 at 11:00 on January 21, 2023.
