She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Luther Matthews, her parents Benjamin and Bernice Schenck, and brother James Schenck.
She is survived by her son Clay, and his wife Amy Matthews, and their three children Gina, Chase, and Valerie of Westfield, Indiana. Her younger brother, Leslie of Amelia, VA.
Carol, a 1962 Graduate of Thomas Dale H.S. was an accomplished student with many honors which carried over to receiving a Bachelors of Science, and Masters degrees from VCU. Her professional career spanned 42 years teaching in the Henrico County School system. Outside of teaching, she earned her private pilots certificate, and instrument rating. Aside from flying her Cessna, she loved cooking, gardening, and her sports cars.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2024 at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester with a reception to be held following the service.
