

Claude Fletcher Burrows, 83, of Richmond, passed on peacefully May 27th 2016. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years Kaye Cameron Burrows. A Richmond native, Claude was born December 6, 1932 to Waller T. and Kathryn Burrows. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1952. Immediately following high school he served 3 years in Korea for the United State Army. After his tour he returned to Richmond in 1956 and enrolled in the Richmond Professional Institute studying journalism . Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism in1959, he moved to Charlottesville, VA where he became a reporter for the Daily Progress taking over the Richmond Times Dispatch Bureau in 1960. In 1961, he moved back to Richmond where he became a staff writer for the Richmond Times Dispatch covering a wide variety of topics including the General Assembly, the courts system as well as city and county governments. He retired after 38 years and spent the “golden years” traveling with his wife and pursuing his first love oil painting. A gifted artist, Claude spent many years producing wonderful still life portraits . During his years, you could find him presenting his art at various art shows around the Richmond, VA area.
He is survived by many family, friends and former newspaper colleagues. Most notably he is survived by his sons Alan and Jack Burrows, his daughter in law Cathleen Burrows, four grandsons, Zachary Burrows, Ryan Della Peruto, Cameron Burrows, Colby Clifton and his niece Jacky Lee along with her husband Chris Lee. A memorial will be held June 11, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church in Henrico County. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Lung Association.
