

FREEMAN, Douglas A., Jr., (Big Billy and also known as Peaches to his VDOT coworkers) 60, of Ashland, VA, went to be with the Lord on April 8, 2017. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret C. Freeman. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Patricia (Pat-Pat) Freeman; son, Douglas S. Freeman (Elizabeth); daughters, Brandy M. Freeman (Anthony Morgan), and Heather R. Freeman (William Fox); brother, Steven D. Freeman (Kathy Short); sister, Cheila M. Penny (Wayne); four grandchildren, Faith, Aiden, and Conner Freeman, and Kennedy Fox; niece and nephew, James and Jennifer Schaaf and their children in Texas; sister-in-law, Barbara A. Schaaf. Douglas worked at VDOT for over 30 years. He loved spending time with his loving family and spending time spoiling his grandchildren was the highlight of his life. He loved movies, video games, fishing, and camping. He cared about all of his neighbors and their families. Douglas lived in the same neighborhood 30 years and was active in his Neighborhood Crime Watch. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Ashland Church of God, 407 Myrtle St. Ashland, VA 23005, where a service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Family requests that you come in casual attire to honor Billy’s wishes.
