

Francis R. Calamita, 91 of Sebastian Florida passed away on 3 March, 2015 in Virginia. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Francis (Cal) was a loving husband to Edna P. May for 65 years prior to her passing in 2008. He was a devoted husband and father, and a proud WW II combat veteran. Cal was a retired restaurant manager who loved Big Band music and jitterbugging at Lions Club functions. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Cal will also be missed and honored by his brothers in the 104th Infantry Division as he honored those who predeceased him. Cal was 21 years old when his Division joined others to chase the German Army across occupied Europe. The Timberwolves swept across Belgium and Holland into Germany. After the war, Cal returned home to Patricia who had already given birth to their first child. From there he embarked on a fulfilling life around raising his children and gathering many friends along the way. He leaves to cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories of his marriage to Patricia and his children William (Vanessa) Calamita of Maryland; Albert (predeceased); Dennis (Beverly) Calamita of Virginia; Mark (Karen) Calamita of Florida; Joseph Calamita of Virginia; and Robin (Elias) Ramos of Florida; his grandchildren Dawn; Dennis Jr; Natasha; William Jr; Mark Jr (predeceased); Maria; Sean; Timothy; Albert; April; Corey; and Vincent; 14 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild. Cal was predeceased by his two sisters Dorothy and Phyllis and by his father Albert Calamita and mother Margaret Fiengo of Connecticut. Not having brothers, Cal grew up attached to his six cousins Francis Calamita; Steven Calamita; Jake Bassetti; William Calamita; Ernie and Eddie Mangini, all predeceased. Additionally, Cal’s life was enriched by his close relationships with numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, and nieces. A funeral service will be conducted on March 10, 2015 at 11:00am at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Highway, Ashland, VA 23005, where the family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will be in Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay, FL.
