He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Abner Pleasants Baugh and Mary Wingfield Harris Baugh; and his 5 siblings, William Baugh, Virginia Luck, Abner "Wink" Baugh, Lucille Trice, and Anne "Connie" Smiley.
Harris is survived by his wife of 71 years, Edna Lingerfelt Baugh; children, Richard A. Baugh (Cathy), Teresa B. Smith, and David G. Baugh (Cindy); grandchildren, Gwendolyn Ashworth (Tarpley), Evan Baugh, Henry Smith, Allison Smith, and Maggie Smith; great-grandchildren, Ryland, Alexis, Sammy, and Molly.
Harris loved his wife, Edna, and his commitment was evident in the way he provided for her well-being throughout their life together. He also found joy in his involvement with the lives and activities of his children and grandchildren, coaching little league, and attending every extracurricular activity for his family that he could.
He was a lifetime member of Local 10, Plumbers and Pipefitters and a corporal in the U.S. Army. He will be remembered for honoring his Louisa roots, as the keeper of the homeplace and of Bumpass stories and histories. You could count on him to attend all Beaverdam School Reunions, and to check in on his friends and family. He had a love of bluegrass music, and he enjoyed playing the mandolin.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. A private graveside service will be held at the family cemetery.
