Margaret W. Burke

BURKE, Margaret W., (nee Mairead ni Conghaile) (Michael Ned), 89, of Ashland, Va., passed away on May 28, 2016, peacefully at home. Born in Formna Village, Inis Oirr, Aran Islands, County Galway, Ireland in 1926, Margaret was a long-time resident of Queens, N.Y., before moving to Ashland in 1994. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard, who died in 2013. Margaret was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother "Maimo" and friend, who retained her intelligence, compassion and sense of humor until her death. Margaret came to the U.S. in 1948 and worked as a waitress for many years. She is lovingly remembered for the care and love she gave her family and friends. Her heart has stopped but she remains alive in the memories, laughter and joy she left her children and grandchildren. Margaret was beloved as Maimo to many in Ireland and the U.S. Margaret is survived by her son, Kevin of Arlington, Va.; daughters, Maureen of Dublin, Ireland, Paula Brockenbrough (Allan) of Ashland, Va. and Philomena Najarian (Paul) of Annandale, Va.; grandchildren, Tara Useller (Rob), Casey (Rebecca Medway) and Ryan Burke, Bryan and Sara Burke, Eamon and Emily Brockenbrough and Emma Najarian; daughter-in-law, Yang Burke of Tennessee; and great-grandson, Robert Useller. In addition to her husband of 62 years, Margaret was predeceased by her son, Michael E. Burke of Tennessee; brothers, John Kevin and Eddie Anthony; and her sisters, Mary Burke and Sarah Simmons. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 105 S. Snead St., Ashland, Va., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed.
