His parents were Ira Clinton and Lorine Reynolds Blankenship of Paint Bank, VA.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles J. and Robert L. Blankenship.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Sherry Wysor (Laird); brother, Rev. Randall C. Blankenship (Barbara); two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He served in the U. S. Army in Greenland. He was retired from Virginia State Capitol Police and was an active member of John Marshall Lodge # 2 Fraternal Order of Police.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, Ashland. A reception will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church.
