Mary Roberts McDaniel

She is proceeded in death by her first husband Garland Roberts Sr., second husband Herman McDaniel, son Michael Douglas Roberts, brothers James, Joseph Mitchell, sisters Blanche Newland and Jean Newland, mother Margaret Pelfey Newland and father Joseph Newland. She is survived by her twin sister, Martha Ann Newland, foster siblings Clara Elliott, Sylvia Schlemmer, and Harvey Elliott, sons Lawrence Roberts and Garland Roberts, 5 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

After finishing her education at Radford University she began her career as teacher and taught at an elementary school for many years in the Hanover and Prince William County school systems. She attended Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church as well as Winns Baptist Church. In addition to a great love of family, she loved music in all forms, including playing, singing, writing and performing for the joy of others. In her spare time she enjoyed writing poetry and making others laugh.

The family will receive friends for the visitation starting at 10AM Monday, October 25th, 2021 with the funeral service to take place at 11AM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. A graveside service will follow at 1pm at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Ashland, VA 23005.
