Ray was born April 7, 1945 in Wise County, Virginia to Raymond and Ellen Robbins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Cecil Robbins, and daughter LeAudrey Salmon.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years Diane Chandler Robbins, his son Roy Robbins and daughter Tammy Robbins Swindells (Bill). In addition, he leaves behind his grandchildren (or as he lovingly called them his grandbabies) Stephen Smith, Olivia Swindells Harper (Matthew), Whitney Swindells Shook (Curtis), Amber Swindells Bonanno (Jake), Kirsten Swindells Hinnant, and Julia Salmon; and his “precious great-grandbabies” Junior Smith, Landon Hinnant, Sawyer Courtney, Lily Harper, and Sophia Harper. Ray is also survived by his sister Lilly Robbins King in addition to many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
There is one other that will dearly miss Ray, one that spent many a day outside with him while he observed nature, one that sat with him through the afternoons of watching Bonanza and old war documentaries, and enjoyed their long naps together. He was Ray’s shadow, his trusted companion, his protector, and partner in crime. Ray loved his little chiwawa Cody so much, and Cody loved him right back.
Ray’s memorial service will be held at Signal Hill Cemetery at 12360 Hanover Courthouse Road on Monday, April 17th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Ray’s name to the Hanover County Volunteer Fire-EMS department.
