Roger Raymond Myers, Jr., of Cartersville, Virginia, a devoted father, fearless firefighter, proud Navy veteran, and loyal friend, passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 56. While he officially answered his final call, anyone who knew Roger knows he likely left this world with a joke, a story, and a grin.
Born on September 19, 1969, in Richmond, Virginia, Roger lived a life defined by service, courage, and dedication to others. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Iraq War as a crash deck firefighter, where he developed the discipline, loyalty, and sense of purpose that would guide him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Roger continued answering the call to serve. He began as a volunteer firefighter at Chesterfield County Station 5 before dedicating more than 25 years as a professional Master Firefighter with the City of Richmond. Known for running toward danger while others ran away, Roger was respected for his bravery, relentless work ethic, and exceptional skill as an EMT—earning him the nickname “The Pike Doctor.” He took immense pride in protecting his community and standing shoulder to shoulder with his fellow firefighters, whom he considered family. His strength came not only from his training, but from his faith, his character, and his genuine love for people.
Above all else, Roger was a devoted father. To his sons, Dylan and Chase, he was nothing short of Superman. He showed his love through guidance, protection, humor, and life lessons—sometimes unsolicited, always unforgettable. He never missed a football game, track meet, piano recital, or movie night, and took great pride in watching his boys grow and succeed while coaching them every step of the way.
Roger found God’s peace in the outdoors and embraced it whenever he could. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who cherished time spent in nature. He loved cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, debating politics, and insisting you sing and dance along in his truck—whether the music was old-school country or rap.
Roger is survived by his sons, Dylan and Chase Myers; his sisters, Jeanetta Cebollero, Anna Simms, and Laura Luckett; his uncle and aunt, Jimmy and Anna Lee Anderson; and many beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Myers, Sr., and his mother, Linda Frazier.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 3, 2026, at noon at Goochland County High School. In his honor, the family invites memorial donations to be made to the Richmond Fire Department Foundation or the Republican National Committee—two organizations close to Roger’s heart. Roger will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Roger Myers will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever appreciated for his service, his strength, and his unique ability to make even the hardest moments a little lighter.
