Stewart F. Reid

Reid, Stewart F., of Ashland, Virginia died on Friday, July 25, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janet S. Reid; daughter, Laura R. Liebert and her husband Charles; beloved grandsons, Charley and Reid; his nieces, Shirley, Nancy, Joan, Carol, Ginny, Suzanne, Cheri, and Lesa; and his great nieces and nephews. He was founder and president of Reid Funeral Home in Ashland, Virginia and past president of the VA Funeral Directors Association. Stu was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and a proud and generous resident of Ashland, VA-“the center of the universe”. He was a voracious reader and avid gardener but most happy in his role as a fun and loving grandfather or “Dipps” as he was affectionately called. He was a bright light to so many! His charismatic and kind spirit will be missed forever. Our lights may shine a little dimmer here on earth but may we find comfort in knowing heaven will shine even brighter with his presence. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home-Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Private interment. The family request, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 105 S. Snead St., Ashland, VA 23005.
