It is with the deepest of sadness as the angels ring the bells to rejoice and call another angel home.
Joseph Adam Schmidt of Assiniboia (formerly of Calgary, Alberta) was called to be with the Lord on July 8, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Affectionately known as "Adam", he was born on May 23, 1931, on the family farm in Meyronne, Saskatchewan, and was one of four children to parents, Leopold and Katherine Schmidt. Adam was primary schooled in the area and worked on the farm until he moved to Calgary to follow his dreams. Adam excelled at being a skilled tradesman, there was nothing that he was not able to build or repair, and honed his craft working for Thermo Trailer for 30 years in the sheet metal fabrication industry until his retirement in 1996 when he received a gold watch for his efforts and hard work throughout his years of service. He was predeceased by his parents Leopold Schmidt (Austria) and Katherine Wagner (Texas); brothers, John Schmidt and Peter Schmidt.
He was also predeceased by his much adored and loved Maltese Poodle "Lu-Lu" in 2001.
Adam will be lovingly remembered and leaves behind by his wife Ellen "Agnes" Schmidt of 39 years; children, Edward "Wayne" (Terri-lee) and Ellen "Randine" (David Hele) all of Calgary, Alberta; sister, Marjorie Chorel of Glentworth, Saskatchewan; grandchildren Britney (Taber), Dillin (Lethbridge), Bryden (Taber) and Austin (Airdrie). He was also survived by numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Very Special Thank-You to all the family and friends who visited him during his stay in acute care and then after he was admitted to long-term care and to all the kind and generous nurses at the Assiniboia Union Hospital who unselfishly ensured that he was well taken care of while he was in palliative care until his passing.
He will be laid to rest at the Meyronne Cemetery alongside his parents at his request.
