It is with great saddness that we announce the passing of our dear dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, Alden Hoffos on Sunday, October 31, 2010 in Assiniboia. Left to mourn are his three children Cynthia Hoffos (David), Brent Hoffos (Patrice) and Carol Gallet (Philip), grandsons Christopher, Thomas, Matthew, Jordan and Ryan; his sister Ona Bouchard and sister in-law Yvonne Hoffos; numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins; and loyal friends. Alden is predeceased by beloved wife Val, his son Grant, his parents Ortel and Alice, brother Dallas Hoffos, and brother in-laws Norman Kyle and Rod Bouchard.
Alden Lawrence Hoffos was born in Assiniboia on July 10, 1928. At the age of twelve he was farming with his father two miles east of Congress. The land has been farmed by four generations and in April 2010 was recognized by ISC for a Century Family Farm Award. As a young adult, Alden expanded his skills to the movie theatre as a projectionist at the Elks and Olympian Theatres and at the local drive-in. He married Valeria Marcenko on a muddy day, June 9th, 1954 and they celebrated that marriage again at their 50th wedding anniversary. Through the years, Alden was active in the community – especially through the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Canada (BPOE) where he was a life-time member. He loved to fish, garden, build and fix things, and so enjoyed time spent with friends and family. Alden had an amazing talent to connect with everyone he met. Regardless if you just met him or knew him for a lifetime, you felt a ease in his presence. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 525 Centre Street, Assiniboia, on Thursday, November 4 at 11 a.m. Reverend Neil Gilbert will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alden’s memory may be forwarded to Elks Children’s Hospital, Wa Wa Shrine Centre, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK S4P 2E1.
