With heavy hearts the family announces the peaceful passing of Ed on Tuesday, December 21st, 2021 at the Assiniboia Union Hospital in his 85th year. He is survived by wife Margaret, daughter Sandra, son David (wife Sherri), grandchildren Justin and Kaylee (Quintin), sisters Lillian MacDonald and Anne Peters, sisters-in-law Sylvetta (John) Diakow and Bernice (Bernie) Diakow, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Ed was predeceased by his parents Mike and Helen, brothers John, William and Bernie, brothers-in-law John Peters and Ian MacDonald, nephew Derek Peters, great nephew Michael Peters, and nephew Randall Diakow. Ed was born August 31, 1936 at Assiniboia, was raised on the family farm in the Weybridge District, three miles SW of Willows, and was the youngest of six children. He attended Weybridge School, Assiniboia High School and Luther College in Regina. He had many fond memories of Luther and all of the lifelong friends he made and kept in touch with and the many reunions. Following his schooling, Ed returned to the family farm and also worked for many local businesses, including Assiniboia Co-op, Inland Construction, and the Co-op Creamery. Ed married Margaret Smith in 1963 and they resided on his family farm at Willows where their children, Sandra and David, were raised. In 1966 Ed moved his family to the Town of Assiniboia to secure a better living, which included running water and indoor plumbing. After his employment with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool life and finances improved and he was gradually able to acquire a farm of his own, grow a garden and plant trees. He was always a farmer at heart. He enjoyed bowling, swimming, playing cards, travelling to visit family members, any excuse for a Turkey Dinner, and camping trips with grandchildren and friends. Ed joined the Assiniboia 55 Club and spent many years doing volunteer work and enjoying the many events, activities and card games with friends. In later years Ed devoted his time and many talents to establishing a new yard site, shelter belt, and his retirement home on the NW 25-8-1 W3rd. He lived there in peace and contentment from July 14, 2003 until November 4, 2021, when he was hospitalized with pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis. The family wish to express their gratitude to Dr. Carulei and the caring nursing staff at Assiniboia Union Hospital, and to the numerous doctors, nurses and other health care professionals at Dr. F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their expert care. Celebration of Ed's Life will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Assiniboia 55 Club, Assiniboia, SK. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.rossfuneralservice.com for the Diakow family.
