Evelyn Dorothy Friese (Lins) of Rockglen, SK away at Extendicare, Moose Jaw, SK on July 1st, 2021 at the age of 91 years. Evelyn was born in Calgary, AB on March 27th, 1930, one of seven children born to Peter and Edna Lins. She attended school in Calgary from grades 1-5. Times were tough during the Depression and in 1941 her dad went to B.C where he found work. In July after school was out, her mother moved the family out to Rossland, B.C. They later moved to Castlegar, B.C. and then to Trail, B.C. where she finished her schooling. During the summer, the kids would get jobs picking strawberries, raspberries and cherries. After finishing school Evelyn worked at a Woolworth's Store in Trail, then later moved to the resort area of Ainsworth Hot Springs, B.C. where she worked for her sister and brother-in-law. In 1950, she moved to Nelson, B.C. where she worked at B.C. Telephone as a telephone operator. In 1951 she got a job at B.C. Forest Service as a clerk-typist, she really enjoyed it and this is when she met Joseph Friese of Rockglen, SK who had come to B.C. for winter work. They were married January 23rd, 1953 and came back to Saskatchewan to take over his parents’ farm. Her love of nature and the outdoors, also animals and birds helped her to adjust from city life to farm life and was always a great help to her husband Joe. After selling the farm in 1983, they moved into Rockglen, but found it hard to retire, so in the spring of 1984 they bought a tree spade and went into the business of tree moving together, which they really enjoyed. However due to Joe's failing health and 12 years in the business they sold the outfit.
Evelyn’s love of the mountains however never left her and she always looked forward to her trips back to B.C, where most of her family lived. She loved her garden and yard and spent most of her time outside. Evelyn was a dedicated volunteer for the various community groups. She loved her family and her grandchildren dearly and tried to spend as much time with them as possible.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Peter and Edna Lins, husband Joseph, daughter Cindy, mother and father in-law Joseph Sr. and Christina Friese, brothers Ken, Allen, and Robert Lins, sisters Helen Newmaster, Terry Evans, Lorraine Glaboff, and special friend Floyd Loucks.
