

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald Gordon Vail announces his passing on May 23, 2015. Gerry was born August 15, 1944 on the family farm in the Weybridge district south east of Assiniboia. He was the youngest child of Robert & Annie Vail. At age two, Gerry, his parents and two older siblings moved to Assiniboia. Gerry attended grade school and high school in Assiniboia, attaining his grade 12 diploma. During his school years, Jerry worked for Merdo Morrison at the Morrison Bakery and his first job being a delivery boy with the bicycle having a large rack on the front and back – the bakery bicycle could be seen all over town. Upon graduation, he began his career was as a baker’s helper, to his older brother Don, until Don left the bakery. At that point the bakery was changing hands and Jack Ambrose became the new owner – Assiniboia Bakery. Jack and Gerry were the baking team, together baking everything from bread and buns, pies, cakes, donuts and meat pies. Jack’s son, John came on board in the later years and in 2009, Gerry retired after a life of 50 years at the Assiniboia Bakery. Gerry was a quite individual who enjoyed his family and growing flowers, especially geraniums of many colors. Following his retirement, he was part of the early bird group of boys who met around 6:00 am for coffee and toast, and then in the afternoon he and Shirley went for afternoon coffee. Gerry was predeceased by his father Robert in 1956, his mother Annie in 1990, his brother Don, step-brothers Bill, Lenard and Melvin; he is survived by his sister Shirley Mayes, sister-in-law Margaret Vail, three nephews, Stan, Ken and Wes, and their families as well as several cousins. Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK. Neil Gilbert officiated. Prelude and Postlude organ music was provided by Dale Carnegie. Pallbearers were: Wes Mayes, Ken Mayes, Kevin Schauenberg, Wayne Svenson, Stan Little and Tim Gavin. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, Sask.
