
Gerry Hudson-Taylor of Ogema, SK passed away peacefully, December 2, 2015 at age 87. Predeceased by husband Merv Hudson (1969), husband Doug Taylor (2012), parents John and Kathleen Wright and siblings Joe, Denny, Harry, Myra and Fay. Gerry is survived by sons, Donald (Belinda) Hudson of Cochrane, AB and Hugh (Donna) Hudson of Regina, SK and step-sons Garfield (Connie) Taylor and Grant (Maria) Taylor and grandchildren, Cheryl (Jaret) and Mark (Charlene), Sarah and Laura and great-grandchildren, Hudson, Sullivan, Hazel, Caden, Brooklynn and step grand-son Jeremy. Gerry was born December 29, 1927 in St Walberg, the youngest child of Jack and Kathleen Wright. After graduating from Grade 12 in St. Walberg she entered nurses training at Saskatoon City Hospital, graduating in 1950 and moving to Assiniboia with girlfriend Liz Watson, to be a public health nurse where she met her future husband, Merv Hudson. Merv and Gerry were married June 28, 1951 and began their lives together farming at that time. On the farm Gerry learned how to cook, bake, can, garden, look after chickens and raise her two beloved sons, Donny and Hughie. Gerry also began teaching piano lessons to the young people of Ogema district. In 1976, she attended a community college class in oil painting, enjoying it so much she would stay up until three in the morning to paint. She won several awards through community college and taught oil painting classes in Ogema, Pangman, Bengough, Ceylon and Lake Alma. In 1952 she started playing the organ for the Ogema United Church Junior Choir and later the Senior Choir and continued to play until she broke her hip in 2011 – a total of 59 years. In 1992 she was awarded the Zone 3 Volunteer Recognition Award for her outstanding contribution and dedicated service to the culture in Ogema. That same year she also won the Lt Governor Award for a musical she composed for Ogema’s 82nd birthday. Gerry organized the Ogema Arts Council and was the original member of the District 7 Home Care Board and Community College.
