Irene Monteyne

It is with great sadness that Irene's family announces her passing on April 20, 2017 at age 88. Irene is survived by nine children: Joanne (Val) Michel, Brenda Michel (Daryll Howells), Duane (Harlene), Murray (Gisele), Ken (Joanne), Barry (Dianne), Linda Bruneau (Kevin Merrien), Glenn and David; 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Marie Walter and Paulette (John) Kish, as well as nieces, nephews and numerous other family members. Irene was predeceased by her husband Henry and infant daughter Mary Lynn; parents Roy & Pauline McGillicky; brothers Roy, George and Ralph and sister Roseanne Monteyne; granddaughters Shayna Michel, Sasha Hocklander and step-grandson Joel Fersch. Irene was born on August 7, 1928 on the farm in the Torquay district of Saskatchewan. The family moved to the Macoun district, where she grew up and attended school. In 1947, she married Henry J. Monteyne. The next 25 years were spent farming, until 1972 when they sold the farm and bought the Manoir Hotel in Willow Bunch, SK. They sold the Manoir Hotel in 1978 and purchased the Torquay Hotel. In 1981 Irene returned to Willow Bunch and bought the Willow Bunch Variety Store until she sold the business in 1989. Mom will forever remain in our hearts. Prayer Vigil was held Thursday, April 27, 2017 and Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, April 28, 2017 at St. Ignace Roman Catholic Church, Willow Bunch, SK. Presiding at the Prayer Vigil was Marielle Dionne, music was led by Lois Marit and Cathy Bonneau. Funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Dennis Remot, music was led by Cathy Bonneau, Sylvia Durand and Doraine Empson. Tribute was given by Tyler Monteyne. Ken Monteyne was Urn Bearer and Honorary Pallbearers were Margaret and Jim Cote. Interment at the Estevan City Cemetery. Donations were gratefully accepted for the Lung Association.
