It is with great sadness that the family of Jim McColl announces his passing on Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Coronach, Saskatchewan. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Connie McColl; brothers Roy, Bert, Glen and Jack; and sister, Margaret Bartley. Jim leaves many to mourn his death: his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley; his adoring daughters, Darlene (Dallas Loucks), Donna (Gerald Toth), Dianna (Mark Kupper), Denise (Cameron Kupper); his prized grandchildren, Rylan Loucks (Marta), Landon Loucks (Jade), Kale Kupper, Jillian Loucks, and Shelby Kupper; his precious great-grandson, Antoni James Loucks. Jim is also survived by his brother, Ron, sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
James Hodson McColl was born June 6, 1934 near Elkhorn, Manitoba. He spent the first half of his life in the Elkhorn area. He attended school at Jeffery and told many tales, some true and some purely entertaining, about his and his siblings’ adventures to and from their one-room country school. Prior to settling down and starting a family, Jim served three years in the army of which two years were spent in Germany. Jim married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Brennand, on March 18, 1960. They were one day short of celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. Jim and Shirley raised four daughters that were and continue to be the focal point of their lives. Jim and Shirley moved with their family to Fife Lake, Saskatchewan in 1974 where Jim worked for Pioneer Grain until his retirement in 1996. After his retirement, he continued to work with several area farmers, which he enjoyed immensely. In addition to his family and farming interests, Jim had many favourite activities. He was an avid gardener who loved to plant enough vegetables to provide for his family. He enjoyed a good game of golf or a cold Bud with great conversation with family and friends. He watched his grandchildren’s sporting activities with great pleasure over the years. And he could always be found or counted on to be tinkering with or fixing something. Jim’s amazing Christmas light display was admired (and expected) by everyone during his favourite season. Jim was also a long-term member of thirty seven years of the Canadian Legion of the Elkhorn Branch #58.
Funeral Service, celebrating Jim’s well lived life, was held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Wesley United Church, Rockglen, SK. The Reverend Ian Kellogg officiated. Tribute was given by daughter, Donna McColl. Pallbearers were Grandchildren: Rylan Loucks, Landon Loucks, Jillian Loucks, Kale Kupper, Shelby Kupper, and Nephew, Roy McColl. Interment followed in the Fife Lake Municipal Cemetery, Fife Lake, SK. Music Ministry was led by Johnny & Maureen Sabourin, Lois Marit and Martha Porter. Donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Elkhorn Branch #58, Elkhorn, MB, R0M 0N0 (or a Legion of your choice) or the Fife Lake United Church Memorial Fund, Fife Lake, SK, S0H 1N0. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
