Maureen and family, i am sorry to hear of Jims passing and offer my sincere condolences to you . ,I have fond memories of Jim being my second teacher in a little one room school house in Stonehenge , where he was the sole teacher of grades 1 to 8.Jim had a helping hand in shaping and encouraging a young mind and made learning fun.Even back then  ,when he was just starting his teaching career ,he had an ability to get us to ask and question things that were new to us. With deepest sympathy to the Powrie family.  Mr. Powrie was one of my teachers who made me actually like science in school. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow students and town of Assiniboia residents.  Rest in peace.

Dear Maureen, Sarah and James,
I heard the news of James' passing at St. Thomas More college mass this morning and was deeply moved.
My heart goes out to you and I wish to express my deepest sympathy and prayer support as you grieve the lose of your dear husband and father. May the Lord hold you tenderly in His loving arms.

Sad to hear that Mr. Powrie has passed away. Generations of memories from his class for sure. Will always remember the interesting comments form the back room, when Jim had the mic going to help out our hearing impaired students. Always put in the extra effort to try and keep his classes interesting, and it was easy to see how much he enjoyed it.

There are lots of good teachers, fewer great ones, and even smaller number that make such an impression on you that 30 years later you still remember them.  Jim had a powerful influence on several generations of kids. What he did was important and made the world a little better place.  He will be missed.

It was with a heavy heart that I attended Mr. Powrie's inspiring service today.  I was honored to be one of his students and was further blessed to have him teach both of my children.  He not only taught us academically, but taught us by the grand example of living a simple and happy life! Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

My deepest condolences to the entire Powrie family. I have far too many memories of Mr.Powrie to encompass this space...his impact of knowledge and love of science was infectious. When I reach back into my memories of grades seven and eight it's hard not to forget the fun we had in his class. Especially the dissections. Later after I had graduated from high school and was taking my education degree, I got to know him on a different level... as peers. He always took the time to talk to me, and on those occasions I discovered that not only was he a very good teacher, but also a fine man.  He will be missed... but his legacy of family, love of life, commitment to education and life learning remains.

I found out of Mr. Powrie's passing on the FB page dedicated to memories of Assiniboia.  On there many former students share fond memories of Jim.  It is obvious by the words extended there he was a well respected and loved teacher.  He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed...

It was a blessing for us to meet Jim during our visit for the wedding and get to know this kind, smart, joyful and loving person. We will always cherish the memories we have of spending time with Jim while gardening, going to the park with the girls, and just talking together. To James and family,
My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. Having lost a parent all too early myself, I send thoughts of strength and acceptance your way. 
I have fond memories of Mr. Powrie grabbing the faucet in the science lab at the elementary school as he "swung" down from the "platform" at the front of the classroom and have wondered many times if that faucet survived all those years! 
May he rest in peace and may you find comfort in all the memories.
