It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joel on March 18, 2017 at the age of 19 years. Joel leaves to cherish his memory, his loving parents Corrie and Gisele, sister Krista (Derek) Hill, nieces Erica and Chloe (2016), sister Chantal (Garett) Walbaum, nieces Kenley and Sloane, grandparents Eugene and Irene Clermont, aunt Aline (Paul) Dumont, uncle Dale Croissant and aunt Paulette Croissant. He was predeceased by his grandparents Abe and Loretta Croissant and aunt Gailene Croissant. Born September 24, 1997 Joel was the youngest in his family and as a toddler became his father’s shadow. He followed along with him to work at the school, hunt, bowl and coffee at the New Moon, getting to know a lot of adults along the way. Many people have stories about Joel that we will always enjoy hearing. He was a member of the Assiniboia & District Wildlife Federation with his father and volunteered whenever he had time. He enjoyed being around the club members and really felt that he belonged when he was there. He enjoyed the quiet talks he had with his mom in the evenings and especially loved eating her food. Cinnamon buns were never to be shared! He will be so greatly missed. Joel completed his grade 12 in Assiniboia and attended Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatoon receiving his certificate as a Heavy Equipment Truck and Transport Technician in May of 2016. He was employed at Trimac in Saskatoon until layoffs occurred. At that time, he moved back to Assiniboia and gained employment at Paterson Grain where he enjoyed meeting people and getting to know a little about grain and farming. Joel was introduced to competition air pistol in the fall of 2009 along with other local youth. This was the beginning of his passion for the sport. He attended numerous competitions in Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC and Ontario winning many gold and silver medals. To name a few, in 2012 he was the outdoor provincial junior men air pistol champion and in 2013 he won the gold medal in the Toronto Grand Prix and was very proud. He was on the Saskatchewan Handgun team from 2012 to 2014 and loved the pressure of competition. Joel was a dedicated hard worker who took everything very seriously. He was a perfectionist at everything he did, working many hours to get everything just right. Besides hunting, he loved his cars and had recently purchased his dream car, a 2010 Dodge Challenger, which he polished many times. In Joel’s memory, his parents will take the car on road trips this summer. A private funeral service was held at Ross Funeral Chapel on March 23, 2017 with Father Dennis Remot officiating. Honourary pallbearers were Joel’s friends: Bradyn Karst, Dylan Karst, Scott Easton, Austin Zerie and Jasper Moneo. Urn bearers were his aunt Aline Dumont and cousin Martin Croissant. Readers were Paul Dumont, Darcy Dumont and Renee Lethbridge. Music ministry was led by Lois Marit and Carol Marit. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assisniboia. Joel has left a huge hole in our hearts and will be forever remembered by his family. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
