Mrs. Marion Marie Slater Rainbird

Marie was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England to Arthur and Ada Slater. She was the youngest of five children. She grew up in town where she walked to school each morning. In England, she worked making insulators for telephone and electrical wires and also at the True Blue Pub, which is where she met her husband Harold Rainbird during World War II. They were married on March 1, 1945. Marie came to Canada in April 1946, sailing on the Aquitania into Halifax, where she then took the train to Moose Jaw. Marie and Harold lived in Moose Jaw until 1957 and while there they had three children: Bernice, Harold (Buck) and Gerry. Then they moved to the West Poplar customs where they lived for 3 years and after that to the Big Beaver customs in 1960 where they spent the next 19 years. After Harold's passing, Marie moved back to Moose Jaw and lived there until 2000. For the last 11 years, Marie lived at the Bengough Health Centre. Daughter Bernice and family would like to express their thanks to all of the staff at the Bengough Health Centre for the loving care they provided for her there.

Marie was predeceased by her mother and father, sister Alice, and brothers, Arthur, Ron and Dick, and husband Harold in 1979. She is survived and lovingly remembered by daughter Bernice (Dean) Holbrook of Big Beaver, sons Buck (Barb) Rainbird of Calgary, and Gerry Rainbird of Calgary, grandchildren Jeff (Donna), Kevin (Danette), David (Jennifer), Crystal (Michael), Jolene and Jarrod (Chelsea), great-grandchildren Calvin, Christa, Cayla, Jamie, Jesse (Brittany), Emma, Coby, Carter, Lincoln, Ryan, Eric, Peyton, great-great-grandchild Emma, sisters-in-law, Phyllis, Ivy and Joan, and many nieces and nephews.

Anglican Funeral Service for Marie was held on September 1 at the Bengough United Church, with the Reverend Isabella Frank officiating. Interment followed at the Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw. Donations can be made in memory of Marie to the Bengough Health Centre (PO Box 399, Bengough, SK, S0C 0K0). Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
