
Muriel Gibson, of Lafleche, Sask., formerly of Willow Bunch, Sask., passed away February 24, 2015 at the Lafleche & District Health Centre. Muriel Evelyn Petreman was born December 23, 1919 at Oxbow, Sask. The family moved to farm north of Coronach, Sask. Muriel went to school at Hart, Sask., then they moved to Hart where Muriel’s dad ran the lumber yard and she attended Berg School with her brothers. Muriel married Alvin Gibson on December 24, 1939 and they lived on the Gibson farm. In 1992, Muriel and Alvin retired to Lafleche and then to Assiniboia. Alvin passed away in 1998 and Muriel continued to reside in Assiniboia until moving to the Lafleche Health Centre in 2012 Muriel always made nice meals, beautiful deserts and breads. She made delicious homemade doughnuts, cream puffs and other treats. Muriel also did beautiful knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing, carpentry and enjoyed music, gardening, sports and playing cards. While residing in Assiniboia, Muriel belonged to the Club 55 and to the Limerick chapter of Tops.
She was predeceased by her parents Clinton and Ada Petreman, her husband Alvin and eldest daughter Myrna Gibson, brothers Frank (Dorothy), Lawrence (Pearl), and Harold.
Muriel is survived by six children: Elaine Atkinson of Victoria, Dale (Gail) Gibson of Beaumont, Glenda (Dan) Daniels of Lafleche, Dennis (Kathy) Gibson of Willow Bunch, Al (Kitona) Gibson of Willow Bunch and Brent (Suzanne) Gibson of Estevan; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Eleanor Petreman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Paul’s United Church, Assiniboia, Sask. Reverend Linda Tomlinson-Seebach officiated. Tribute was given by grandson, Jason Gibson, Poem ‘To My Mother’ was read by daughter, Elaine, and song sung by Muriel – “Two Little Maids”, was played. Readers were granddaughters, Jennifer Gibson, and Tracy Hyshka. Honorary Pallbearers were Staff and Volunteers of the Lafleche & District Health Centre. Pallbearers were grandsons: Claire Atkinson, Jason Gibson, Ryder Bower, James Daniels, Cameron Gibson, Trevor Gibson, Jeremy Gibson, Donavon Gibson. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. Music Ministry was led by organist, Sylvia Coghlin and St. Paul’s United Church Choir in addition to Music Tributes by Henry & Colleen Lemieux, singing ‘Go Rest High on that Mountain’, and ‘Hallelujah’.
