Our beloved Mother, cherished Grandmother and Great-Grandmother (Gramma Rose), Rose Marie Ager (nee Gehl) passed away peacefully at Dr. F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw, SK. on February 10th, 2022. She will be deeply missed by her 7 children, 14 grandchildren and 25 great–grandchildren. Rose was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Robert (Bob) (2010), grandchild Jeremy Ager (2017), parents Rosa and John Gehl and siblings – Johnny, Barbara, Joe, Alex, Peter (Myrtle), Helen (John) Scheller & Alma (Jake) Groth.
She was born and raised on her parents’ farm near Hodgeville, SK. on November 22nd, 1926. After finishing school, she then moved to Regina, Sk. to attend Balfour Technical School where she became a secretary and subsequently worked for Sears in Regina. On October 14th, 1950, she married Robert (Bob) Ager in St. Andrew’s United Church in Regina. Following her marriage, her and Bob took up farming southwest of Scout Lake, SK. She worked hard on the farm, raising seven children, growing a huge vegetable garden; freezing, canning etc. to fill the deep freeze and cold room for the winter months. She was an avid sewer, spending many hours sewing clothes for her family and even fixing canvas for the combine. Patching clothes was a specialty. She also enjoyed knitting, including afghans and sweaters. Her bread dough ‘fryers’, homemade bread and buns were a favorite for everyone and her bun recipe was a hot commodity in the family. She also bowled in Assiniboia for several years winning many trophies. She had a passion for solving puzzles of all kinds, which she did until her passing. She was a strong woman with a keen intellect, who learned through life. Rose and Bob loved to travel, attending a whole host of sports tournaments, graduations and other events of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also had a passion to learn about the wider world and travelled extensively to other countries including many holidays to Varadero, Cuba, China, Costa Rica, Europe including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and a Rhine River Cruise. They even travelled into Tripoli, Libya to visit their daughter (Gayle’s) family.
Rose and Bob retired, deservedly, from the family farm in the fall of 2000 and moved into Assiniboia where they lived for many years, especially enjoying coffee at the Franklin Hotel. Mom walked downtown every day, sometimes twice a day. Keeping in touch with her children and grandchildren was very important to her. Slowing down in her 90’s, she moved into the assisted living facility of Prairie Villa in October of 2020. She will be remembered lovingly by her seven children - Gayle (Terry) Jarton, Glenn (Lynn), Brian (Helen), Darcy (Jean), Wanda (Steve) Reimer, Ralph (Lynn) and Wayde (Diana); 14 grandchildren – Jorden (Jen), Marcie (Dan) Jones, Kyle (Ola) Jarton, Joey (Andrew) Hendry, Jennifer (Shane) Croke, Kim (Cody) Small, Byron (Melissa), Jeremy (deceased) (Angie), Jonathan (Zara) Reimer, Joni (Jeremy) Sundeen, Bradley (Kate), Braeden (Ashley), Kara and Cody; 25 great-grandchildren – Gillian, Brynn & Calvin Ager (Byron), Mason, Carter, Kohen, Ethan & Sadie Croke (Jennifer), Parker & Pacey Small (Kim), Emma & Olivia Hendry (Joey), Agatka Lichwala (Kyle), Damon & Daxton Jones (Marcie), Lily & Bella Sundeen (Joni), Hudson Ager (Jeremy), Audrey & Nate Ager (Bradley), Mya & Spencer Reimer (Jonathan), Eliette & Maxine Ager (Jorden), Griffin Ager (Braeden).
