

Ann Millar, 91 years old, passed away on November 19, 2015, with family by her side, in Atascadero, California. She went home to with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ann was born on February 27, 1924 in Delmose, Denmark to Karl and Ellen Hansen. Her father was an architect and builder and her mother was homemaker, caring for nine children. Ann was their eighth child. The family journeyed on an ocean liner from Denmark in 1927, and resided in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Ann enjoyed school and did well with her grades and liked sports. Her father passed away at 59 years of age and so Ann, at the age of fifteen, had to quit her schooling in order to work and help support her family. Her mother's Widow Pension was only $25 per month. She used $2 for bus fare and the rest went to help her mother. Ann worked in many other jobs in her lifetime from restaurants to department stores and always was appreciated for her hard, excellent work. John Daniel Millar (Jack), Ann's husband of 51 years served in the Royal Canadian Air Force when they met in 1943. They were married June 3, 1944 and soon after Jack served overseas for two years during World War II. When Jack returned from the war, he and Ann moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and were blessed with three children; Frank, Lynn and Chris. In 1957 their family decided to move to California. Jack found work at the San Diego Gas and Electric Company. They all enjoyed life in America and became American citizens. Jack retired from the S.D. Gas and Electric Company after 30 years. Ann and Jack moved to Friday Harbor Island, Washington State; where they enjoyed friends, golfing, fishing and crabbing. In 1995, Jack passed away and in 1996, Ann decided to move to Atascadero, California to live with Lynn and Dave Hixson and their family. Ann lived with the family for 20 years and became an active member of the ABC Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and helped many charity organizations. Ann is survived by her sister, Gert McDougal, 93 years young and living in Canada; her son, Frank Millar and wife, Carolyn from South Carolina, along with their children, Kirsten and Jeff; her daughter Lynn and husband Dave Hixson and their children, Angela, Brian, and Steve; her daughter, Christine Millar from Tennessee, and her children, Kale, Dane, and Tara. Ann has blessed with eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Her last three years of life, Ann enjoyed living at the Atascadero Christian Community, where she received much love and care. Ann was a Godly wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and was loved and admired by all. A memorial service will be held at the Atascadero Christian Home in Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 2:30pm.
