Daphne Fahsing Cofounder of North County Humane Society, Daphne W. Fahsing, dies at 90. The youngest of four girls, Daphne was born in Sudbury Hill, a suburb of London, England. Shortly after the end of World War II, she married an American soldier, Alfred Fahsing and they moved to Atascadero. She was a resident of San Luis Obispo County for over 70 years. Daphne Fahsing will be remembered for her passion and tireless efforts for the welfare of animals. This love led to the cofounding of Action for Animals' Rights with Kate Johns in 1977. They began the first local spay/neuter program which worked so well they later received generous county funding to manage and distribute spay/neuter vouchers for that purpose, and so evolved the North County Humane Society, a "no kill" shelter located at 2300 Ramona Road, Atascadero. It was Daphne's wish that she be remembered, in lieu of flowers, by donations to the Daphne Fahsing Spay/Neuter Endowment Fund of the North County Humane Society. Daphne's interests extended far beyond working the countless hours for animal welfare. An accomplished pianist, one could also participate in conversations with her that ran the gamut from international affairs to local politics. She and her friends, as well as family members, would attempt to put the world to right, as her nephew Ian said. Daphne is survived by her nephews Ian and Barry Cummings of Brussels, Belgium and nieces Daphne Hanford of Saskatchewan, Canada and Yvonne Levy of London, England. She will be missed by her family and many friends, both two and four legged. No services have been scheduled at this time. Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Roses Mortuary of Atascadero.
