Melissa Ann Allison (Moore) passed away peacefully and unexpectedly, in her sleep, from an as yet to be determined cause.
Melissa was born July 3, 1960 in Fullerton, California. She grew up in Santa Maria, California, graduating from Righetti High School in 1978. She lived her entire life on the Central Coast of California, spending many years in San Luis Obispo and the last 10 years in Atascadero.
Melissa was a sweet, sensitive and creative soul. She will be remembered for her wit and impeccable comic timing, for being the self proclaimed “Best Aunt in the World”, the giver of the best cards, and lover of kitties.
Melissa had an uncanny knack for finding the best bargains and enjoyed garage sales, the swap meet and thrift stores along the Central Coast.
A rescuer of lost souls, Melissa was a beacon for anyone looking for a safe haven, primarily, but, not limited to, those of the feline persuasion. Her home and door were always open to anyone needing a respite from the world.
Deeply spiritual, Melissa lived by her own mantra of “be good to yourself, and others” – a phrase friends and family will recognize as the long standing message on her answering machine.
A believer in “Pennies from Heaven”, Melissa happily collected found pennies she regarded as having been sent, with love, from those who have gone before her.
Melissa was preceded in death by her father, James A. Moore III. She is survived by her beloved partner of 13 years, Doug Foge of San Luis Obispo, her mother Myrna Moore of Lakewood, Wa, step-mother Sharon Moore of Santa Maria, sister Jenifer Spangler-Hermann and brother-in-law, Dave Hermann, nephews Zachary Spangler (Katie), Alexander Spangler (Ashley), step-niece Jamie Hermann, and great-niece Emma Spangler, all of Washington State.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor the memory of Melissa, please take the time today and every day, to “be good to yourself, and others” and if you see a penny…pick it up…
