

Milton “Milt” Lee Schroeder, age 89, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Templeton, CA. He was born in Paso Robles, Ca on April 8, 1926. He was the ninth child of John D. and Ada R. Heaton Schroeder. His parents and all of his siblings preceded Milton in death. He married Ellen Mae Hansen on April 26, 1952 at the Shandon Methodist Church in Shandon, CA. Milt and Ellen lived in Shandon for all of their 63 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Ellen, son David Schroeder (Melissa) and daughter Connie Duncan. Grandchildren are Lisa Duncan Smith (Sonny), Wyatt Duncan (Shannon), Rawley Duncan (Jasmine Medina), Dawn Schroeder Tarr (Rick), Kari Schroeder Parrish (Chris), Tawna Schroeder White, Jared Fountain and Dustin Fountain. Great Grandchildren are Thomas White, Kara White, Cierra Mae Parrish and Brooke Lynn Duncan. He attended Encinel School, Paso Robles Elementary School and graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1944. He worked on ranches for 25 years as a mechanic and equipment operator. In 1970 he went to work as Maintenance, Operations and Grounds Supervisor at Shandon unified School District. He earned the following saying while there: “If he can’t fix it, it’s broken.” He retired in 1987 due to his health. He spent many years fighting heart problems and cancer. Milton was a Charter member of Shandon Volunteer Firemen which was activated 2/11/1975. In 1982 he and another volunteer were honored as Firemen of the year. This was the first time volunteers had received this award. Milt & Ellen were members of the former Shandon Square Wheelers Square Dance Club. He was currently a member of North County Happy Trails R.V. Club and the Shandon United Methodist Church. We were truly blessed to have him in our life. We could not have had a kinder, gentler more understanding person to guide us. There will be a graveside service at the Shandon District Cemetery in Shandon on Friday, February 5th at 11:00a.m. Following the graveside service we will gather at the Shandon Community Hall located at 195 N 2nd Street in Shandon, CA for a potluck. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shandon United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 102, Shandon, CA 93461.
