Peggy (Margaret Berenice Powers) Milburn passed peacefully on June 2, 2015 in Templeton, CA. She was born December 21, 1926, in San Diego, CA, to Edmond Joseph and Mildred Joan Powers. When she was young her family often moved as her father worked in the oil fields. However, when she was 10 years old, Peggy’s family settled in the Parkhill area near Pozo, CA. She attended El Dorado School beginning in the 6th grade and graduated from Atascadero High School in 1944, where she lived in the Girls Dormitory due to the school’s distance from home. While in high school she was an energetic participant in numerous activities including Yearbook, Band and Athletics, reportedly high-jumping nearly her own height which was just shy of 5’2”. She attended Santa Barbara City College and in August of 1945 she married Ralph Milburn of Pozo. Ralph and Peggy settled on the Milburn homestead where they raised their family of four children. Peggy worked 22 years as Catering Supervisor for Foundation Food Services at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Peggy was always full of zip, often making it challenging for those she worked with to keep pace with her. After Ralph’s passing in 1994, Peggy continued to live on her own at the family ranch for another 15 years before moving to the Atascadero Christian Home, and then to Vineyard Hills Nursing Home in Templeton. She was a longstanding member of the Pozo and Rinconada Country Churches. Through the years she was actively involved in various local community groups including Pozo Sunday School, summer Bible Schools and church camps, 4-H, Farm Bureau, Republican Women’s Club, D.A.R, serving as her local chapter Regent, and with her extensive family genealogical research. She traveled to Scotland and England several times to help further her research, both before and after Ralph’s passing. She is survived by her children Douglas Milburn/Renee of Wrightwood, CA; Dennis Milburn/Deb of Helena, MT; Loren Milburn of Creston, CA; Lisa (Milburn) Cava/Lou of Templeton, CA; grandsons Colin and Dustin Milburn; Mario, Michael and Kody Cava; granddaughters Shelly Milburn (Jeff Sherer), Amanda Milburn (James Ihlenfeldt), Tara Orlick/Mike and Tiana Kovall (Jake Sonne); and great-grandson Dylan Kovall. A memorial service to be held at Rinconada Country Church will be announced at a later date.
