

Tina was born on October 24, 1955 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the daughter of long time Antelope Valley Residents David (Dick) Schultz and Virginia “Ginny” Schultz.
Growing up in the Antelope Valley, Tina loved camping, riding motorcycles with her dad and brothers, photography, sewing, fashion, music, swimming and working in the family-owned business.
In 1971, Tina was in an automobile accident which left her a quadriplegic. Despite the challenges of her injury, Tina went on to graduate from Quartz Hill High School in 1973. From there she went on to complete her General Studies at Antelope Valley College.
Tina then attended the University of California at Riverside where she earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Psychology in 1978. While attending UC Riverside, Tina met Glen Hermsmeier, and they fell in love.
After marrying, Tina and Glen relocated to San Luis Obispo where she studied Child Psychology at California Polytechnic State University. Tina earned a Master of Educational Counseling degree with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in 1980.
Upon completing her degree, Tina and Glen moved to Santa Rosa. Tina was hired to work at the University of California at Davis as a Counselor in the Disability Resource Center.
Later Tina and Glen would move to Louisiana to work at Louisiana State University, where she piloted the program Students with Mobility and Functional Impairment.
Next on their itinerary was a move to Texas where she and Glen worked at Texas State University, San Marcos. After 15 years of service, she and Glen retired to Paso Robles.
Tina’s spent her career dedicated to students with disabilities, mentoring, counseling and encouraging them while modeling that anything was possible.
Tina and Glen shared a love of opera and traveling. They traveled extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, and enjoyed cruises in the eastern and southern Caribbean, and had many wonderful trips to Tina’s favorite spot Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.
Tina is survived by her brother Mike Lopicolo (Karen) of Atascadero, brother Tim Schultz (Charlotte) of Santa Maria, brother Terry Schultz (Denise) of Fort Worth, brother in law Mark Hermsmeier, step brothers Chris Owens, John Owens, step sister Liz Owens Girouard, four nieces, four nephews, two great nieces and five great nephews.
Tina is preceded in death by her parents, David “Dick” Schultz and Virginia “Ginny” Schultz, and by the love of her life, for 45 years, Glen Hermsmeier.
The family would also like to recognize and thank Tina’s amazing caregivers who took care of Tina over the years.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 10 at Chapel of the Roses, 3450 El Camino Real in Atascadero, CA at 11:00 a.m.
