
. — Dupree L. “Pete” Yarbrough, 83, of Tarrant, formerly of Athens, passed away on Feb. 2, 2011. He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He loved his “buddies” (great-grandchildren) with all his being.
He was preceded in death by: his wife of 33 years, Auselin; his parents; and 10 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by: his wife of 22 years, Lena; daughter, Connie Peek (Albert); grandchildren, James Peek (Jackie) and Amber Davis (Justin); great-grandchildren, Landon Davis, Joselyn Peek and Colton Davis; sister, Bernice Martin; brother, David Yarbrough; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Yarbrough was a member and a deacon at Central Baptist Church in Tarrant. He served as commissioner on the board at the Tarrant Housing Authority for 17 years, serving as Chairman since 1997. He was on the Renewal Committee for the City of Tarrant; a member of the Shriners and the VFW; and an active citizen in Tarrant. He retired from U.S. Steel after 35 years of service. He enjoyed University of Alabama football and spending time with family and friends. His loving guidance and strength will be greatly missed by all he has touched.
A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with the Rev. Kin Crawford officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service. A second chapel service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens with visitation from 1 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery adjacent to the funeral home.
