

Mrs. Sowell was preceded in death by her father, Mack Owens; mother, Tessie Ilene Owens; brothers, Charles and Lester Owens; sister, Nellie R. Andrews; and son, Benjamin Franklin Sowell.
Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Charles W. Sowell; her children, Tony and wife Paula, Mike and wife Judy, Joe and wife Anita, and Amy Sowell Fiscus (wife of her late son Ben), all of Athens; one sister, Hazel O. Toone of Athens; nine grandchildren, Chris and wife Kristi, Stacie, Tommy and wife Kelly, Luke, Patrick and wife Jenna, Cory and wife Amanda, Ellery and Noah Sowell, and Stephanie and husband Martin Mann; numerous great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mrs. Sowell was a homemaker, and enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, playing her ukulele, and playing with her great-grandchildren during their visits to see “Mynt,” the name given to her by grandchildren Ellery and Noah. She was a member of the Church of Christ, attending Eastside Church of Christ until her declining health.
Funeral arrangements will be directed by McConnell Funeral Home in Athens. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 p.m. Thursday at McConnell Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2 p.m.. in McConnell Funeral Home chapel. Officiating will be Ralph Gregg and Jerry Curry. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Athens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandson-in-law: Chris, Patrick, Cory, Tommy, and Luke Sowell, and Martin Mann.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandson Noah Sowell, nephews Jerry McGlocklin and Terry Andrews, and friends Gary Hardison and Milton Bush.
