
Visitation will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. George Davis passed on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Huntsville Hospital.
He was born Feb. 23, 1936, to Emmett Ray Davis and Ila Lenora Spivey Davis. He served in the Army from 1958 to 1981, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served one tour in Korea, two tours in Vietnam and two tours in Germany. After retiring, he taught at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. George and his wife Judy traveled extensively after his retirement in their various RVs. Travel covered most of the United States, including Alaska and parts of Canada. George loved to read and watch sports, particularly the Atlanta Braves.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Carolyn Davis Kilpatrick.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Judith Davenport Davis; one son, Paul H. Davis and wife Lisa of Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters, Karen Compton of Madison and Nancy O’Gara and husband Timothy of Atlanta; one sister, Claudette Davis; and four grandchildren, Scott Compton, Dillon O’Gara, Cullen O’Gara and Conor O’Gara.
Pallbearers will be Paul Davis, Dillon O’Gara, Kevin Kilpatrick, Jason Fletcher and Greg Stone.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center, 206 Francis St. West, Jacksonville, AL 36265.
