Funeral service will be Friday, December 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Dr. Glenn Conner officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. George was born April 19, 1939 in Robbinsville, North Carolina to Walter George and Eula Phillips George. He was in the Air Force, he worked at Nationwide Insurance with the family business, and his favorite job was working with his cattle on his farm in Tennessee. He was a long standing member of First Baptist Church in Athens, a member of the masons, and he loved hunting and fishing with his boys.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jeff George, one brother, Dean George, two sisters, Polly Herrington and Evelyn Guge.
Survivors include: one son, Mark George and wife Julie of Athens; two sisters, Bonita Moss and Maxine Barton; one grandchild, Jordan George.
Pallbeareres will be Hal Clemmer, Jordan George, Paul Hicks, Andrew James, Mike Kesler and Steve McCurry.
