

Margaret was preceded in death by her mother, Elise McDonald Wood, her father, Dr. Richard Tyler Wood; and her brother, Joseph Edward Wood.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Cecil C. Gregg; daughter, Susan Lynne Gregg Sutter, husband Marc and granddaughter Elise of Orlando, Fla.; son, Steven Lee Gregg of Athens; grandson, Christopher Lee Gregg; and great-grandson, Noah Ryan Gregg of Frisco, Texas; brother, Richard Hammond Wood of Athens; as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a loving wife and mother.
She was a graduate of Athens High School, Athens State University and the University of North Alabama. She taught sixth-grade science in the Athens school system for 17 years.
She was very active in community service in Athens and was an active member of Brownie Scout leadership, was local president and district vice president of the Jaycee-ettes of Alabama, was active in the Athena League, the DAR, and the teacher’s sorority.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for 66 years, sang in the choir and worked as a leader for the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the church with Jimmy Bassham officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. McConnell Funeral Home will direct the services.
Serving as pallbearers are Buddy Chambers, Bobby Gentry, Billy Maples, Daryl Qualls, Frank Westmoreland and Johnny Crutcher. The honorary pallbearer is Ken Fikes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Athens, Hospice of Limestone County or your favorite charity.
