
Olin Mattison Looney, 91, was born January 6, 1920, in Limestone County. He was married to his loving wife Blanche Owen Looney for 72 years prior to his passing at home on September 3, 2011. Olin was the son of the late Jesse and Leila Looney and had one brother, Jesse Hoyt Looney of Lacey’s Spring. Olin was a retired farmer and World War II Navy Veteran who during his life enjoyed square dancing, woodworking, traveling, and tending his rose garden. He attended Tanner Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Leila Looney; his son, Phillip Olin Looney and his granddaughter, Rachel Looney.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Blanche Owen Looney; two sons, J. Hugh Looney of Decatur and Paul S. Looney of Tanner; four grandchildren, Kenneth J. Looney of Decatur, Melanie L. Looney of Alexandria, Va., Benjamin P. Looney of Tanner and D. Ross Looney of Priceville; six great-grandchildren, Matt Looney, Katherine Looney, Braedon Weaver, Brianna Baker, Clay Looney and Colby Looney; and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday graveside in Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Johnson officiating. Pallbearers will be Ed Carpenter, Benjamin Looney, Jim Looney, Ken Looney, Ross Looney, Travis Phillips, and Dale Standridge.
