

A native of Erwin County, GA Mr. Bush was the son of the late Matthew Jackson Bush and Sula Nobles Bush and was preceded in death by a grandson, Albert J (Trippe) Bush III. Mr. Bush spent his teenage years in Jacksonville, FL and graduated from Landon High School and attended the University of Georgia where he played football from 1946-1948. Playing left tackle, he was a member of the 1946 National Championship team, a member of the 1946 and 1948 SEC Championship teams, and was selected as an All American in 1946. Mr. Bush had been inducted into the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame and received the Distinguished American Award of the UGA Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
Mr. Bush was a member of the Rotary Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Quarterback Club, Georgia Letterman’s Club, Touchdown Club, Marine Corps League, Wally’s Boys, YMCA, Sons of the American Revolution, and Sons of the Confederacy. Mr. Bush was a retired car dealer, a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, and a member of St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church.
Survivors include wife, Susan King Bush of Athens, GA; sons, AJ Bush Jr and wife, Cathy of Jacksonville, FL and John T Bush of Athens, GA; daughter, Janice LaBerge of Neptune Beach, FL; step-daughters, Lisa King and husband, John Parker of Jacksonville, FL and Linda Dyke and husband, Chris of Bryson City, NC; brother, Mack Bush of Cordele, GA, and grandchildren, Brooks, Mary Catherine, Ian, Kelsey, Callan, and James.
Funeral services will be held 1:30PM Friday, February 18th at St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM Thursday, February 17th at Bernstein.
Pallbearers will be Mack Bush, John Parker, Chris Dyke, John Bush, Taylor Murray, and Jack Murray.
Honorary pallbearers will be Upshaw Bentley, Dan Blitch, Stan Henderson, Bill Simpson, Tom Strickland, Merritt Pound, Tom Wilkins, Claude Williams, and Hudson Whitley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church, 3195 Barnett Shoals Rd, Athens, GA 30605 or to the YMCA, 915 Hawthorne Ave, Athens, GA 30606.
