Ann Swanson Jones

She was born March 2, 1941 in Fayetteville, Georgia, to Paul Lewis Swanson and Louise Lunsford Swanson, She attended public schools in Fayette County and graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1959. She received a bachelor's degree in music education from LaGrange College, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Beta Sorority.

Ann married Everett Jones Jr. in 1963. During Everett's years of service they lived in Savannah, Georgia; Maryland; Denver, Colorado and Columbus, Georgia.

In 1972 Mr. and Mrs. Jones moved to Athens, Georgia with their three young sons. Ann served her community as an officer in the Athens Cancer Society Auxiliary and on the Clarke County Board of Education. She was an active and devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Flower Committee, the Congregational Care Committee and the Chancel Choir. She taught at the First Presbyterian Church Weekday School and was named director in 1987. After her retirement she was a valued member of the Weekday School Committee and Circle 3/4.

Her family was her main priority and she supported her sons in their schools and in all of their activities. She is survived by her sons, Everett Jones III and Matthew Jones (Lisa); her grandchildren, Mary Frances Jones, Everett Jones IV, Matthew Eidell, Blain Eidell, Mary Ann Jones; and her brother, Billy Swanson (Gail); and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son, Andrew; and her granddaughter, Kate Jones.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to our dear Tannie McGuire, for all of her many years of hard work, dedication and loving care.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 28, at 2 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church reception hall.

In lieu of flowers the family welcomes memorial gifts to First Presbyterian Weekday School and First Presbyterian Church, 185 East Hancock Ave., Athens, GA 30601.
