She was born in Ansbach, Germany on March 1, 1929, and came to America in 1953. She married the late Horace J. Duncan (of Walhalla, S.C.) on St. Patrick’s Day, 1956. They lived first in Asheville, N.C., and in 1965 moved to Athens, GA. She recently moved to Evans, GA to be closer to family.
She is survived by her two children: Monika Riely and her husband Mark of Asheville, N.C., and Chris Duncan and his wife Lisa of Evans, GA. She is also survived by her granddaughter Lindsay Duncan Schwartz and her husband Jacob of Peachtree Corners, GA. Also surviving are her brother Horst Schaaf (Gitta) of Haundorf, Germany, and her sister Trudy Lauterio (Ray) of Fresno, CA.
Anne Duncan was an unequalled homemaker, and an avid and talented gardener. She loved the birds that came to her birdfeeders, especially the cardinals, but hated the squirrels. She had a passionate interest in the weather. She loved being a mother and an “Oma.” She worked for Avon from 1965 to 1980, during which time she received many awards, and was well-loved by her many customers in the community. She took pride in maintaining a house and a beautiful garden. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 13, at Bernstein Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to noon. A graveside service will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
