Betty Poss

A native of Big Stone Gap, VA, Mrs. Poss was the daughter of the late Clifford Harrison Burchfield Sr and Edna Carrier Burchfield and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Poss Jr; infant son, Clifford Poss, and brother, Clifford Harrison Burchfield Jr. She was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church where she was involved in the United Methodist Women and the Pace Setters Sunday school class.

Survivors include daughters, Peggy Sue Poss Williams and husband, Mike of Athens and Cynthia Ann Poss Mills and husband, Kerry of Bluffton, SC; son, Robert “Bobby” Poss III and wife, Sandra of Athens; grandchildren, Nanci Williams, Michael Williams and wife, April, Randy Williams and wife, Allison, and Eric Moye, and great-grandchildren, Samuel Poss Williams, Janie Elizabeth Williams, and Georgia Shea Williams.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Poss’ caretakers, Tara Cox, Michelle Clarke, Tangia Bell, Atlean Huff, Anne Njoroge, and Rosa Bonds.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday, November 7th at First United Methodist Church with Rev Chuck Hodges officiating. Dr. Jon Appleton will officiate at a private family interment. The family will receive friends following the service in the Hancock Hall at the church.
